Lord D'arcy Pew
I expect this to backfire on the Demarcates. Trump will now play the GOP gangster. Having a criminal record in no way counted against George Floyd, it was just played up to make him more the victim. Black Lives Matter© went on to be a very successful criminal enterprise. The very system that millions of Americas despise just made Trump an icon. Some rebranding and lots of victimhood should do the job. Trump just needs to tune in to all those that don't give a f**k about laws and authority. Edited 3 hours ago by Lord D'arcy Pew
Society of fools
Trump should crush it in November. Even Virginia- Democrat in the last few Presidential elections- is now tied in opinion polls. Minnesota will be next. Just deserts for launching banana republic type lawfare
crash-and-burn
There's many a politician from the opposing side that could have been dragged through the courts and prosecuted, but it never happened. Many Americans on the fence will see this as a political assassination attempt and will sway them to vote in a way the democrats are too blind to foresee. debtlessmanc
Interesting comparison to the Norman Scott affair where Jeremy Thorpe was clearly guilty of a more serious crime but found innocent. It ruined him though. Here this could see Trump elected as the establishment picked on him rather than acquitting him.
Bruce Banner
I dislike Trump, but he is an effective campaigner. The election campaign is going to be interesting from now on. Trump's supporters are likely to stand by him and any attempt by the Democrat administration to prevent him from running could result in tanks on the street. Constitutionally they can't stop him running. Painful as it is it would be wrong to do that. Whilst at the same time I suspect that the swing voters that either trump or biden would need to win will not view positively trump's conviction The people who say they are more likely to vote for trump now following this conviction were going to vote for him anyway they don't get any extra votes
Johnno1167
Politics , especially in US, is very tribal . the conviction will only have an affect on the small number of swing voters in a state . Those fervent democrats or republicans will still vote along party lines . (it’s like a friend of mine .. always voted Tory ,. Hates Sunak, Johnson et al … in the pub, admitted that Labour was a much better prospect for him and his family on what is most important to them… but… could never bring himself to vote Labour, and will vote Tory) So the question is whether enough of the swing voters, will see this for what it is and be willing to put a convicted liar into highest office ? I’d see it as a gift to Biden if used correctly , targeting swing voters which in a close run race , can change the outcome .

The establishment thinks it’s obvious that people will vote against trump if it says it’s a bad idea.

TenYearToGetMyMoneyBack
The whole situation makes me think of Al Capone being convicted of tax evasion. I suppose it would be harder to prove that Trump organised the storming of the Capitol rather than just standing there watching with glee. zugzwang
Americans can choose not to vote for Trumpy, or Coma Joe. There are alternatives to the Machine. ✊ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_Stein_2024_presidential_campaign Jill Stein, a physician from Massachusetts, announced her entry into the 2024 United States presidential election on November 9, 2023. Stein had been the Green Party's presidential nominee in 2012 and in 2016. In 2012, she received 469,627 votes.[2] In the 2016 election, she received 1,457,216 votes (1.07% of the popular vote).[3] On November 9, 2023, Stein announced her third bid for president[6] on Twitter, citing her main priorities as taking an anti-war stance, promoting a Green New Deal, universal healthcare, and ending what she characterized as "genocide in Gaza".[7][8][9] Stein's campaign reportedly has the potential to erode Joe Biden's core support in the general election.[10][11]
