Talking of beans, in the main supermarkets they are £5 for six cans, and that price rise has finally persuaded my Mrs to buy the own brands. *They were £4 for six cans in April.

Isn't some fertiliser made in the UK? Wasn't the reason for the CO2 shortages due to lack of fertiliser production (CO2 being the bi-product) which was halted to the energy costs involved which have jumped massively? I know this would be a drop in the ocean compared to worldwide fertiliser production.

Our mortgage product expires Dec this year, and I've just applied for a new remortgage. Jumped £88 more per month. From 1.72% to 2.89% for a 5 year fix. I decided to lock in a rate now with another lender, as our current lender only offers products up to four months in advance; although I'll review again in two months (but expect rates to be higher). I'm a little annoyed with myself I didn't get the ball rolling two weeks before, as I would have got a cheaper product (although I could have only done this 6 months before the end of our product)!

I was going to to say the same, it's the only way to fairly charge all residents and ensure they pay. Most of our bill is 50% gardeners, and 50% everything else. To put it into context, that's £6k ish for gardeners for 18 visits per year - however it's always three blokes who get it done in a day - so not unreasonable for the day rate really. I don't like the fact it's not adopted, it costs me around £180 per year, but I save more than that having an energy efficient house. I know of other people who don't have these fees, but have say, a shared driveway, and there is always disagreements on when work is to be done and who pays what.

Yes it is. Gordon Brown changed it to a tax so it wasn't included in the inflation statistics when the rate going up a fair bit.

In my opinion this is one of the best threads ever on this Forum, and one of the most important regarding HPI. Sausages (aka gruffydd) was spot on with his analysis throughout and although on many other things I have disagreed strongly with him he really does deserve a lot of credit for helping us (myself in particular) understand the inflationary pressures. There was very good input from many other posters, and it soon became clear that the consensus within the thread was much more accurate than anything we were hearing from the BOE or various other commentators. I'll keenly follow this thread, as I find the Solar panels a complete minefield. I'm prepared to pay a decent sum for similar to you, but need to be clear on the pay back. I have a similar roof, perfectly south with no trees in the way etc, and a large double garage with south facing pitched roof. I did wonder if it was possible to hook up enough panels to be energy independent with battery storage, and only top up the batteries at night on a cheaper tariff (we have gas central heating and no hot water tank, in a large new build house). I know the answer to this is it's not worth it, but I need to consider it when I move to an EV.

True. I think the problem is it's going to be worse than most here predicted.

They probably purposely delayed the exchange as house prices were rising!
