  1. Every bit of property in the uk is worth what the buyer and seller agree on. Its getting the two to agree that is currently tricky.
  2. It seems to me that we are entering the penny dropping phase. Sellers will be hearing low offers, and slowly the truth will dawn on them. Very well done for putting an offer in though. If a seller gets no offers they just think the market is "dead". If a seller gets low offers then they have to face the truth. Put in low offers, or what you think is reasonable, on all properties you see that you would buy. You are waiting to find the keen seller, usually caused by death, divorce or debt. If an offer is turned down, then move on, they will contact you eventually, asking you to negotiate, but why would you ? Keep up the viewing and offering, and you will eventually find a place with a seller that wants to move on. If you hear phrases like "I am not giving it away ", run away and move on.
  3. Yes yes yes all very good but.... December 17 house sales England volume total 79,500 December 18 70,000 December 19 69,000 December 20 84,000 December 21 64,000 December 22 42,000 May I present the great house price crash of 2024 to 2026. (WW3 permitting). Bought to you by the recent Land Registry figures. The Jan, Feb, March etc figures will be very interesting.
  4. I would hate to be planning retirement without the following:- A happy home. A challenge. Something you have never done before. A pastime/hobby/sport that you are passionate about. A solid relationship if you have a partner. No debt. And then , seeing as how you asked.... £35k pa take home absolute minimum, £40k pa sensible minimum. £45k pa is comfy. Double that in London etc
  5. There are some truly pathetic contributors here. With even a little French language knowledge you would understand that the featured lady left an abusive home when others were still at school. That is the story. It is usual for us in the UK to play the victim, rant about how life isnt fair in similar circumstances. In France you generally get this ladies reaction, a quiet statement of the facts that were asked for. Not looking for pity. To some of the contributors on this thread, can I ask if your mum knows you are using her laptop?
  6. Where is the hpc is the question. IMHO its currently in the starting blocks and waiting for the gun. There are 50% more houses for sale on RM in my county, Worcestershire, than only 6 months ago. That is the only flag I need.
  7. The vaccines saved many, but now the risk factors have swung against them. DYOR
  8. I think it was Not the Nine oclock News that did the sketch about "Come home to a real fire, buy a house in Wales" after a spate of attacks on second homers. Jeez that makes me feel old. Strange to take it out on a butcher of all people though.
  9. Can I say this these days ? Sod it here goes. I have watched friends and my own offspring grow up and marry either badly or well, in the old fashioned sense. Those that marry well prosper. They dont just have a house, they have a pool, a horse , 2 cars and a weekend sports car, they holiday abroad with their friends in big villas. They have all they could want. They work hard and play hard. Those that marry badly live in a rental in the town, they are happy enough, but know what they are missing, and resent that, and I dont blame them.
  10. That is a fabulous find. Full marks to the singer, who is a brave and wonderful person, and possibly nuts in a really good way. The market is just so bad right now that selling at that price is rather unlikely.( Obvious understatement there) .
  11. Alecta (Swedens largest pension fund) is having a team meeting to discuss why it had 2.1billion dollars of funds in signature bank, first republic bank and , yep youve guessed it, SVB.
  12. I wish I was not worried. It must be blissful to be monumentally ignorant.
  13. The planet will go on. Homo Sapiens will not. We are just a blink of an eye in its billions of years. Thats why Instagram was invented, to distract the beautiful people away from the ugly truth which would send them quite bonkers. Seize the day , put your phone down and have a bit of fun.
  14. My name here I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do. I also have been conflicted at times about the housing market, my housing decisions worked out for me reasonably well, more by luck than anything. We are stuck with this market, it is not going to change in a hurry. The reason I am here is because I feel the market is very unjust. I hope my house value flatlines so that some element of social justice will creep in. I realise its not the normal way of thinking. In your position I would probably be looking to change career paths. A house should be 100% a home, not a way to make money. Just saying... If property flatlines, and inflation stays high, then we have a very old recipe for a generation to slowly get to the point where the mortgage is an insignificant bill, holidays can be bought, cars can be bought ( death to pcp ) and general happiness ensues, Russia permitting of course.
