I'm guessing but my guess is that whilst the chronic health consequences of working conditions might well have been quite significant on the stats outright accidents probably weren't, even though there were a lot more of them than now.Thu, 23 Sep 2021 13:06:54 +0000So, from a non-political point of view things absolutely look ready to pop, I think, and I think you would agree: Interest rates can't go lower House prices are at an all time high with respect to wages Availability of credit governs house prices People have loaded up on massive mortgages Furlough is ending There are a lot of supply shocks Inflation is up The government has maxed-out incentives to buy like: Equity Loan (quarter mil for a newbuild in London) ZIRP 95% guaranteed mortgages etc. I mean, on the fact of it, you'd be like "OMG HPC now!!" because it's hard to imagine how a system that is right on the brink, with all the taps fully on, can go anywhere but down. But. But.... when you the the political aspect into consideration. The fact that Government, Corporate, and Residential debt is sooooo high, the fact that a Tory government is never going to rinse out the housing market (lest they be out of power for a decade or two), and the fact that because money is all created by extending loans and because the system itself is basically maxed out and we can't create enough money anymore, it really just looks like the government will do the classic inflate-out-the-debt, which obviously pours money into assets like houses, for existing owners. So, basically I see where you're coming from. I can't think why we're not hearing much about this great news 🙄. After all, back in the earlier part of this year when the Delta variant (previously called the Indian variant) was taking off there and causing a lot of problems, our media just couldn't push enough fear-porn onto our screens and pages. Now that they have effectively dealt with it, no interest. Aside from spotlighting the utter untrustworthiness of our so-called 'news' media, this highlights that even places with far less developed health systems like India are doing a much, much better job of giving treatment to people who have detectable infections by providing them with a useful pack of instruments and drugs for home treatment than our own medical systems who seem utterly unconcerned about helping infected people unless the disease progresses far enough to require hospitalisation. You'd imagine that there could be lessons learned from the success of doing the obvious and trying to help people from the moment you know they are infected instead of ignoring them until such time as their disease may have progressed to requiring hospitalisation, but apparently not .. Another amazing mystery! There just seem to be so many inexplicable things about the way that COVID has been handled ... But there is always more to these stories than meets the eye. The newspapers lay along with them because "man buys house with gifted deposit" is not so interesting. These stories also feed into the baby Boer narrative of IPhones and Abacados being the reason you can't buy houses. On this point I once had a fairly long online discussion with one such boomer who put it all down to hard work, despite paying 15% interest blah blah blah. He was open about what he earned and the prices, but when it got to the deposit, he admitted that there was no way that he could have afforded it, as it would today be well over a year's pay for him.
